Dr. Lee Hood believes that ISB scientists are missionaries who are spreading the power of systems biology. He is always on the road and today (June 24) he’s in Lyon, France, to attend the EISBM Symposium 2013 to give a talk on P4 medicine. Prior to arriving in Lyon, Lee was in Jerusalem to give a talk at the Israeli Presidential Conference, which drew world leaders such as Bill Clinton as well as celebrities such as Robert De Niro and Barbra Streisand. And in reverse chronological order, Hood was in Montana, Spain and Luxembourg – this is just for June. His travel schedule is intense, but his drive and purpose are an even bigger force.

To help connect the dots: EISBM, which stands for European Institute for Systems Biology & Medicine, was co-founded by Dr. Charles Auffray (Lyon), Dr. Zhu Chen (Center for Systems Biomedicine in Shanghai), and Hood in 2002. Hood collaborated in 2012 on a paper regarding systems medicine with Auffray and Rudi Balling, who’s the director of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine. The paper “Revolutionizing medicine in the 21st century through systems approaches” can be read here.

Hood makes connections all over the world on behalf of ISB and to spread systems biology. It’s that important.
