The 2025–26 school year has concluded, but ISB Education continues to build momentum through curriculum development, statewide educator engagement, conferences, and a busy summer of student research.

More than 160 civic leaders, scientists, philanthropists, and educators gathered in Seattle to honor a Nobel Prize achievement, launch the Mary E. Brunkow Fund, and highlight the importance of mentorship, STEM education, and scientific opportunity.

Katie Hafner, a renowned New York Times journalist and author, spoke with Nobel laureate Mary Brunkow about overlooked women scientists, the power of mentorship, and the work still needed to create opportunities for future generations of women in STEM.

From Nobel recognition and scientific firsts to transformative collaborations and community impact, 2025 marked one of the most significant years in ISB’s 25-year history.

This summer at ISB, 12 college interns dove into research and a science-themed book club, while five education programs engaged 150+ high school students in hands-on learning, data science, systems thinking, and leadership – thanks to generous partners and supporters.

Since 2021, Claudia McLaughlin Ludwig and the ISB Education team have partnered with Washington Service Corps, an AmeriCorps program, welcoming four AmeriCorps members in various important roles over that timespan. The program will be paused for 2026. Join recent AmeriCorps members Sarah Clemente and Faduma Hussein in reflecting on their time at ISB and the importance of this program to their professional development.
