Conflicts of Interest
The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is committed to integrity, accountability, and public trust in our research and governance. Our conflict of interest policies establish standards for identifying, evaluating, and managing interests that could affect research objectivity or institutional decision-making.
Investigator Conflicts of Interest in Research
ISB’s Investigator Conflict of Interest Policy promotes objectivity in research by establishing standards designed to ensure that the design, conduct, and reporting of research are free from bias arising from financial conflicts of interest. The policy applies to all investigators participating in funded research, regardless of funding source.
The policy establishes requirements for training, disclosure of significant financial interests, institutional review, and management of identified conflicts. A financial conflict of interest exists when ISB determines that a significant financial interest could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of research.

ISB’s Fiduciary Conflict of Interest Policy protects the Institute’s interests when transactions or arrangements could benefit the private interests of a voting member of its Board of Directors or their family members.
Fiduciary Conflicts of Interest
The policy establishes requirements for annual and ongoing disclosure, evaluation of potential and actual conflicts, and procedures for reviewing and approving transactions involving conflicts. These procedures include recusal from voting by individuals with a potential or actual conflict.
