Luis is a senior software engineer in the Moritz lab at ISB. For the past 14 years, he has been a main contributor to the development of the Trans-Proteomic Pipeline, which aims to provide a free and open-source suite of tools for the processing and analysis of proteomics tandem mass spectrometry data, and in use by hundreds of researchers worldwide. He has also collaborated on various aspects of the PeptideAtlas and SBEAMS projects. He is also very involved in the dissemination of proper proteomics informatics data analysis and interpretation protocols by helping develop a curriculum and teaching training courses.
Prior to joining ISB, Luis worked in the e-commerce division of at a top-10 internet company, where he designed, developed, maintained, and monitored the company-wide web-tier code, which handled millions of page impressions per day, and tens of millions of sales transactions per year. As a student, he developed some of the first web-based scientific and classroom software in the field of Astronomy; he also analyzed data from the Hubble Space Telescope, operated an atomic accelerator, and synthesized Carbon-60.
