Laurie graduated from the University of Washington and went on to complete three post-graduate programs in communications, career counseling, and fundraising management. She enjoyed a 30-year career in the life and health insurance industry as an operations executive, working at Safeco locally and also at nation-wide companies headquartered in the Midwest and Eastern U.S. During the latter part of her career, she moved into the nonprofit sector where she obtained large-scale federal and state grants and directed programs for workforce employment and education. In retirement, Laurie is active in several community organizations through support, volunteering, and board work, including the Alzheimer’s Association, Washington Women’s Foundation, the Seattle Foundation, and ISB. Focus areas to date have included scientific research, particularly as related to Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia, homelessness, and education and scholarships.
